MS in Health Systems Management Engineering

The MS in Health Systems Management Engineering prepares students for careers in the healthcare industry. Hospitals and the healthcare system are in desperate need of redesign from a cost, quality and productivity standpoint. Employers are seeking the skills offered in this degree. 

Courses are from the Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. This degree is for students with a background in sciences, engineering, or applied social science. They will be expected to be agents of change and providers of training themselves. The degree leads to increasing technical or management responsibilities in health care organizations, particularly hospitals, and consulting.

The MS in Health Systems Management Engineering prepares students to tackle important issues within the healthcare industry by increasing their knowledge and skills in:

  • Healthcare information systems
  • Hospital efficiency improvement
  • Quality management
  • Supply chain improvement

The MS in Health Systems Management Engineering is available online via DEN@Viterbi or on USC's campus in Los Angeles.

The Graduate Certificate in Health Systems Operations is available on campus only.

Applicant Backgrounds: 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering, the sciences or applied social science who are interested in operations management and health care applications. In general, someone with these backgrounds would be appropriate:

  • Management or administrative training, in any industry, with an appropriate degree
  • Quantitative methods, including engineering but also other sciences
  • Healthcare, including clinical and administrative positions

DEN@Viterbi

The DEN@Viterbi online delivery method enables students to advance their graduate and professional education fully online. For online DEN@Viterbi students, on-campus attendance is not required. However, our unique blended model allows DEN@Viterbi students to come to the USC campus and attend class in-person, further engaging with their on-campus classmates and faculty. 

In addition to over 40 graduate programs, professional (non-credit) courses are also available via DEN@Viterbi.
